Free Interface Diffusion (FID)
A method of protein crystallization in
which protein and reagents gradually diffuse under the influence of a concentration gradient.
TOPAZ® screening chips provide an ideal format for FID as the diffusion chambers are designed with valves that control the interface of protein solution and reagents, allowing molecular species to move gradually from an area of high concentration to a lower concentration. This slow mixing exposes the protein to a wide swath of crystallization phase space and fosters orderly crystal growth.
