Human germ cell differentiation from fetal- and adult-derived induced pluripotent stem cells
A major cause of infertility in humans is production of few or no germ cells, yet little is known about human germ cell development because the process occurs early in embryos. Researchers report that induced human pluripotent stem cells can differentiate into primordial germ cells under specific culture conditions. Using quantitative RT-PCR carried out with 48.48 Dynamic Array™ IFCs on the BioMark™ System, increased expression of germ cell marker genes was found in the cells after differentiation. This culture system may provide a model to study human germ cell development. > READ MORE
Microfluidic-based multiplex qRT-PCR identifies diagnostic and prognostic microRNA signatures in sera of prostate cancer patients
There is a need for the identification of biomarkers that can help predict the prognosis of men diagnosed with prostate cancer. Researchers developed a high-throughput, multiplex, quantitative RT-PCR method, using 96.96 Dynamic Array IFCs and the BioMark™ System, to quantify miRNAs in patient sera. 384 miRNAs were examined from 48 patients, and several miRNAs were identified that correlate with presence and severity of disease. > READ MORE
