The HIP8 monoclonal antibody reacts with human CD41. CD41 is a 125/25 kDa α subunit of the GPIIb/IIIa (CD41/CD61) complex. CD41 noncovalently associates with integrin β3 (GPIIIa, CD61) and is primarily expressed by megakaryocytes and platelets. The CD41/CD61 complex is a receptor for fibronectin, fibrinogen, von Willebrand factor, vitronectin, and thrombospondin. CD41 has been reported to mediate platelet aggregation.
