CD151, also known as PETA-3 (platelet-endothelial cell tetraspan antigen-3), is a 29 kDa palmitoylated glycoprotein in the tetraspanin superfamily (TM4SF). Like other members in the family, CD151 contains four hydrophobic transmembrane domains, two short cytoplasmic tails, and one small and one large extracellular loop. CD151 is expressed by many different cell types such as immature hematopoietic cells, megakaryocytes, platelets, keratinocytes, epithelial cells, muscle cells, Schwann cells, and vascular endothelium. CD151 modulates cellular adhesion, cell migration, and platelet activation.
