The UM7F8 monoclonal antibody specifically binds to CD98, a 125 kDa disulfide-linked heterodimer protein, which is also referred to as 4F2 and FRP-1. CD98 is composed of a 45 kDa light chain and a 80 kDa heavy chain. CD98 is expressed broadly on peripheral blood lymphocytes and monocytes and weakly on granulocytes. CD98 expression has also been reported for nonhematopoietic cells. There is substantial evidence that CD98 acts as a potential amino acid transporter (neutral and dibasic amino acids) and that it is involved in lymphocyte activation and integrin signaling.
