Kruppel-like factor 4 (KLF4) is a member of the KLF family of zinc finger-containing transcription factors. KLF4 regulates various cellular processes including proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, development, and maintenance of normal tissue homeostasis. KLF4 also functions as both activator and repressor, depending on the target gene. KLF4, combined with 3 other transcription factors (Oct4, Sox2, and c-Myc), has been used to reprogram somatic cells into pluripotent stem cells.
