The monoclonal antibody A59 reacts with CD89, a 55–75 kDa glycosylated protein. CD89 is also known as Fc receptor for IgA (FcαR). It is expressed mainly on granulocytes, monocytes, and macrophages in blood and on promyelocytes in bone marrow. It is not expressed on T cells. CD89 can interact with IgA aggregates and has been reported to play a role in IgA-mediated immune responses.
